With university offices and residence halls closing during finals week, students will need to be aware of closing times in order to get out of DeKalb on time.

Gilbert, Douglas and Grant Towers residence halls will close Friday, Dec. 13 after lunch. Lincoln Hall will close the same day after dinner.

Stevenson Towers will close after lunch Dec. 14, and Neptune Hall will close the same day after the dinner meal.

Margaret Schmuller, NIU housing administrator, said that students participating in commencement on Dec. 15 may remain in the halls until 10 a.m. that day. “Otherwise, you must be out of the residence halls 24 hours after your last exam,” she said.

Residence hall computer labs will run on a reduced schedule. Perry Greene, graduate coordinator for the residence hall computer labs, said the “small labs,” Neptune, Stevenson South and Grant North will close for the semester Dec. 5 at 11 p.m. Lincoln and Douglas computer labs will close at 4 p.m. Dec. 6, but will re-open through finals week until Dec. 13 at 4 p.m.

All university offices will close at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 20. Barbara Sullivan, editorial assistant for the office of public information, said offices will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 2, when they will resume regular hours of 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. “Some offices have different hours,” she said, but added they closely follow the same schedule.

Founder’s Memorial Library will remain open during the interim with reduced hours. Between Dec. 15 and Jan. 12, 1992, library hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The library will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31, and Jan. 1, 1992.
