Agency contest offered

Male and female students interested in a career as a model have the chance to be seen and possibly receive a contract from the Elite modeling agency.

Bill Heil, director of “New Faces” at Elite, will be at NIU to judge the 1991 Elite-ACE Fashion/Swimsuit Model Search Contest on Thursday, Nov. 21.

“Heil was a professional model and actor who did print work for companies like Honeywell,” said Rich Pirovano, president of the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs. He also did TV commercials for clients, including “Polaris.”

Heil now scouts in the United States for new modeling prospects.

“Elite has worked with supermodels such as Cindy Crawford from DeKalb,” Pirovano said. The Chicago office works with photographers, art directors, stylists and media producers.

Prizes for the top three finishers have been donated by local businesses. They include a gold bracelet and gift certificates.

Contracts are not guaranteed, but last year’s winner, Denise Sobun, received one, Pirovano said.

Contestants will wear a formal outfit and a swimsuit in the competition. They are judged on appearance, congeniality and crowd response, Pirovano said.

The contest starts at 7 p.m. in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium. A disc jockey will play all night, and performances by the NIU Silverettes, Orchesis and choir are tentatively scheduled.

There is a $5 entry fee, and rehearsals will be announced at a later date.
