Blackout poetry event kicks off National Poetry Month

DeKALB – Redacted, erased, removed. Sometimes the most powerful words are the words not spoken.
Poetry is at the heart of the human experience. To celebrate the start of National Poetry Month, the DeKalb Public Library is hosting a poetry event – Blackout Poetry Art.
The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 6 at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St, in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio.
According to writers.com blackout poetry is created by redaction – or blacking out – old books, newspapers or other recycled books and magazines. Then you write down the words that were not removed from the work and form the poem.
The library will be providing supplies, including old book pages and art materials.
This program is free and intended for adults. It is open on a first come first serve basis, as there is limited space available.
