Triangle fraternity holds informal rush

Men majoring in engineering or science can benefit from rushing Triangle fraternity.

Triangle will hold an informal rush and barbecue at the Triangle House, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m., 238 Augusta Avenue.

“Triangle is a national fraternity of engineers, architects and scientists established in 1907 at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana,” said Triangle President Perry Holman.

The NIU chapter, founded in March 1990, currently has about 30 members, he said.

Since the fraternity conducts rush all year, Wednesday’s event is an informal get-together and an opportunity for members to show off their new house, Holman said.

“It gives students a chance to talk to us and for us to talk to them,” Holman said.

By joining Triangle, engineering and science majors can gain advantages in addition to the normal fraternity benefits, he said.

Professional contacts, such as alumni in the engineering fields, is one advantage. Other benefits include mutual tutoring and shared tools, Holman said.

Triangle held a similar event Aug. 28 with a “pretty decent turnout,” said Triangle member Lamar Ricks.

“We are a positive force,” Holman said. “People have to come out, see how nice the house is and how friendly the men are.”
