CSADD reorganizes, promotes awareness

The NIU chapter of a national student organization opposing drunk driving has reorganized to make students more aware of the problem.

The College Students Against Drunk Driving (CSADD) is determined to promote more awareness of the drunk driving problem here at NIU, said sophomore Jordan Kagan, 7th Ward alderman-elect and a member of the recently revived chapter.

CSADD was organized this semester after a year of absence at NIU when some students felt it was time to regroup.

“If all NIU students can band together, we can fight this problem,” said Kagan.

Kagan mentioned a few ways students could fight this problem together.

One way is for friends to take turns being a designated driver who will not drink alcohol when the group goes out drinking.

“We are not saying not to drink, but to be aware when you drink,” Kagan said.

CSADD also is sponsoring Karen Becker, a member of McHenry County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for a speech Tuesday. Becker will appear at 9 p.m. in Room 222A in DuSable Hall. Any interested students are invited to attend.

Any student interested in joining CSADD can contact the Health Enhancement Services at 753-9745.
