It’s simple: if you don’t like, don’t do

By Beth Behland

Spring means a lot of different things to different people. To some it is the rejuvenation of dormant life and a signal that warm summer days are around the corner.

To others, it means it’s time to pull out that dusty Bible and start preaching their words of wisdom.

It seems this sentiment is sparked every year by the infamous Jeans Day and the Gay Awareness Week. Apparently, this is a clear signal to this group of religious-fanatic wanna-bes that the gay community is going to burn in hell without the salvation they can provide.

These messengers of the Almighty come out in droves swinging the Good Book in the faces of anyone who will give them a second glance. They are eloquent in stating their biblical quotations and proving that homosexuality is the work of Satan.

Will there ever be a day when these heavenly white individuals just lay off and let people be who they are?

Who’s to say whether homosexuality is right or wrong? And who really cares? If it works for you and doesn’t hurt anyone else along the way, go for it.

Once Jeans Day hits, however, there’s no stopping the hypocrites of righteousness.

OK, wearing jeans to show support for human rights is a bit of a goofy idea. The majority of people wear jeans everyday so it just isn’t an adequate measure of human rights backers. It does seem to have gotten to the point where some homosexuals just want to inconvenience homophobes for a day.

That doesn’t make the whole day a wash, however. The sentiments should still be there.

If the day means nothing to you, ignore it. There’s no federal law that mandates one to express themselves one way or the other on Jeans Day.

Still, there are those idiots who insist on forcing others to share their religious beliefs and moral ideals with their rantings and ravings.

But they don’t stop at just preaching through letters in the newspaper and impressing the entire campus with their holier-than-thou rhetoric. Some of these sensitive humanitarians also feel it necessary to display the words “kill a faggot” in their dorm room windows.

This clearly is mentioned in the Bible under the “Inflict Your Morality on Others” chapter.

Maybe to some people the thought of homosexual acts gives them the willies. That’s fine. If you don’t like it, then don’t do it.

Homosexuals do not go around imposing their “gayness” on others. For whatever reason, they simply enjoy being with people of the same sex. It doesn’t mean they perform differently on the job. And it certainly shouldn’t mean their votes count for any less.

Sexuality is only a small part of life and it’s virtually insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Unless, of course, a homosexual wants to serve in the military.

No human being has proper justification for judging others based solely on some excerpts from the Bible. Even if God himself came down and deemed homosexuality a moral sin with the world as a witness, that doesn’t make it right for people to push others around and punish them for being gay.

It’s simple. If you’re a man who believes homosexuality is immoral, don’t sleep with another man.
