IFC vice president of membership booted

The Interfraternity Council impeached the vice president of membership Sunday because he neglected to fulfill the office’s responsibilities.

IFC unanimously voted to relieve Scott Ralston, a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity, from his office.

“He just wasn’t doing his job,” said IFC President Steve Sliga. “After spring rush we just lost contact with him.”

Paul Schumann, IFC vice president, said Ralston didn’t attend the council meetings and “wasted everybody’s time.”

Sliga said the duties of the office include organizing fraternity rush policies, dates and advertising.

Schumann said other IFC members had to take over Ralston’s responsibilities.

“This position is for a full year,” Sliga said. “It doesn’t end after fraternity rush.”

“In the past, there has been a lack of leadership and determination,” Schumann said. “I think the impeachment is a move towards better leadership and the improvement of the whole system.”

“It is good for IFC to realize that we need responsible officers to do their duties,” Sliga said. “We’re not afraid to use the impeachment process,” he said.

Sliga said nominations to fill the vacant office will begin at the IFC’s next meeting in two weeks.

Various council members, including Sliga and Schumann, will orientate the elected candidate as soon as he assumes office.

“We’re going to work very closely with him to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Schumann said.

Ralston was unavailable for comment.
