NIU softball squad welcomes opener

By Roger Moreano

NIU’s softball team will find out how friendly the home field will be in Thursday’s home opener against Indiana State (2:00 p.m. at the Huskie softball diamond).

The game will mark the fourth meeting between the two clubs, who are scheduled to meet five times this year. NIU (9-12) has won the previous three meetings.

NIU has yet to see the home field this season, a season that has been filled with a rash of injuries and poor weather conditions.

“We’ve tried to battle our way through the injuries and adjust to playing people in different positions,” Abrahamson said. “We’re making good adjustments with our people. With all the injuries, all you can really do is try to do the best you can.”

Is Abrahamson satisfied with the team’s performance so far?

“Yes, I’m pleased with how we’ve played,” Abrahamson said. “Of course, we had much higher expectations at the beginning of the season, but it’s hard to be disappointed in our people who are trying so hard every day.
