Greek presidents to get prison sentence

Members of fraternities and sororities will have a chance this weekend to get revenge on their chapter presidents.

Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity is holding the second annual “Jail and Bail” on April 27 from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 917 Greenbrier Road.

Mark Barry, vice president of Lambda Chi Alpha, said Lambda Chi Alpha sends “special agents—G-men wearing sunglasses”—to “kidnap” NIU fraternity and sorority presidents and “jail” them.

It is the responsibility of chapter members to “bail” out their leaders.

Before the hostages are released, however, house members have the opportunity to “get back at” their presidents, Barry said.

Chapter members can force their leaders to sit in a dunk tank, ride a big wheel or have pies thrown at them, Barry said.

Barry said the presidents are aware they will be kidnapped.

Barry said all money raised will be donated to the Salvation Army. Last year about $900 was raised at the philanthropical event, Barry said.

The organization which raises the most bail money will be admitted free to a “Midnight Madness” party at Lambda Chi Alpha at 9 p.m. that evening, Barry said.

Also, guitarist Mike David will perform.

“Jail and Bail,” an idea originated by the American Heart Association, is open to non-Greek organizations also, Barry said.
