Minority students interested in an internship program might also be eligible for a $500 scholarship.

The Coopertive Education Program will award two minority students with scholarships on May 1. The application deadline is April 15.

Office manager of the CEP, Mireya Pourchot, said the scholarships are available to full-time minority students enrolled in the Cooperative Education/Internship Program. The recipients are required to complete two co-op/internships in their major before the second semester award is granted.

American Indian, African-American, Hispanic and Asian students are the minorities eligible for the award. All applicants also must be United States citizens.

Scholarship applicants also are required to have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, sophomore or junior standing, and a declared major or minor in any department.

Students applying for the scholarships must complete a Minority Scholarship Application, provide a 250-word essay on how the scholarship will help them, and submit three letters of recommendation, including two from NIU professors or administrators.

Scholarship winners will receive $250 dollars for each semester in one academic year.

Applications for the scholarships and enrollment in the CEP are available at the Cooperative Education Program in the Holmes Student Center, Room 232.
