Comedianne to wrap up Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month will celebrate its grand finale with the presentation of Just Say Know, a stand-up routine by comedianne Jane Curry.

Curry will perform March 28 at 8:30 p.m. in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium for the public free of charge. Her appearance is sponsored by NIU’s Women Studies program and the DeKalb County American Association of University Women.

“Her performance will keep you laughing, but leave you thinking,” said Valerie Yow, assistant professor of Women’s Studies.

Just Say Know is a stand-up comedy routine which is a satire on different institutions and attitudes toward women involved in higher education and learning. The performance’s main purpose is to educate females for the 21st century.

“Due to the fact that our theme for this year’s Women’s History Month focused on women as innovators, we thought this presentation would be the perfect finale,” Yow said.

Curry is a college graduate with a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Since 1983, she has toured nationally and internationally with her solo performances and also is the editor of a critical anthology of women’s issues.

“She is unlike any other comedianne you might have heard before, and certainly someone you will never forget after you hear her,” Yow said.
