This past year has been a wild roller coaster for gamers worldwide with some extremely successful new releases and others barely lasting longer than a week.
With the new year comes a new generation of games for players to master. This year will see the release of some long-awaited games such as “Grand Theft Auto VI” and ““Elden Ring: Nightreign” and “Ghost of Yotei.”
“GRAND THEFT AUTO VI”
Since the release of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V or GTA V, GTA VI has become something of a meme among its player base.
The previous game was an open-world game where the player was thrown into the city of Los Santos and allowed to do whatever they wanted. Whether that be following the story or carving one of their own, GTA V was a game that still is played to this day 12 years later since its release.
The common joke behind it was that the game would never be released, even with the success of its predecessor and obvious support and hope for the game in the future, and completely ridiculous things would happen before GTA VI would arrive. Something along the lines of “we got ____ before we got GTA VI.”
This meme may finally meet its end as the game is scheduled to release this year and finally give fans of the previous game and the series their long awaited sequel.
Serving as an apparent continuation from the previous “souls” game “Elden RIng,” this new game will delve more into the co-operative aspect of playing with one or two other players and take on familiar bosses.
While “Elden Ring” did give players the ability to connect with one other player and explore the world, it wasn’t to this extent. “Nightreign” will allow groups of up to three players to take on familiar bosses from previous “souls” games, with one of them seeming to be the Nameless King from “Dark Souls III.”
This game is the sequel to the successful “Ghost of Tsushima” and is, once again, set in a different region of Japan with a new protagonist.
“Ghost of YōTei” follows the story of a new protagonist named Antsu as she makes her way across the colorful, ancient grasslands and snowy tundras of Mount YōTei in 1603.
While there isn’t much gameplay or a solid release date, the game seems to be remotely third-person just like the original and shares the same tone and colorful art style .
Continuing the successful lineage of the “Pokémon Legends” series of games, this next edition to the main line games is set in the Kalos region, otherwise known as Generation Six from games “Pokémon X” and “Pokémon Y.”
The story appears to be set in the past just like its predecessor, “Pokémon: Legends Arceus,” and provides key insight and lore onto the history of the region, the people and Pokémon who live there and the origins of mega evolution, a third stage of evolution certain Pokémon can achieve temporarily, which is still relatively mysterious.
The previous “Pokémon: Legends” game provided some insight to the legends of the Hisui region and how those and the region itself came to be, so it will be interesting to learn of the secrets the Kalos region holds in its past.
For those that heavily enjoy fast-paced combat mixed with giant robots, akin to something straight out of the “Gundam” series, “Mecha Break” is for you.
Heavily focused on a third-person perspective with a combat level that will keep players more than engaged trying to keep up, this game satisfies the fantasy of piloting a giant robot with other players in order to tackle unique bosses or fight against each other in high-speed combat.
Each player also has the ability to customize what weapons and equipment are used on their mech making for several unique combinations to experiment with.
