NIU men’s tennis (3-4) fell to William & Mary (2-1) on Sunday by a score of 4-2, sparking a three match losing streak.
In doubles play, the Huskies managed one win but couldn’t secure the doubles point.
NIU sophomores Saul Berdullas and Sam Klein earned a 6-3 victory over William & Mary sophomore Nikita Bortnichek and freshman Raz Katz.
William & Mary sophomore Oliver Hague and freshman Gur Trakhtenberg bested Huskies juniors Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi 6-4.
The doubles point was clinched by William & Mary when seniors Alexander Karman and Sean Joseph edged out NIU junior Iker Dellien Velasco and freshman Chiao Bo Suo Nan in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-7).
The Huskies took two singles victories in the loss.
NIU Gaztambide Arrastia defeated Hague in consecutive 6-4 sets.
At the No. 4 singles spot, Scotuzzi earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Bortnichek.
After dropping a 6-2 first set, Dellien Velasco swept a 6-0 set against Joseph. The third set was another 6-2 loss for Dellien Velasco in the defeat.
Sophomore Angus Howard was defeated by Karman in 6-3, 6-2 sets.
Klein fell to Katz in 7-6 (4), 6-3 sets.
Berdullas was down in a 5-4 third set against Trakhtneburg after 6-1, 3-6 sets when the match was ruled unfinished.
The Huskies look to get back in the win column, hosting the University of Marquette at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House.
