DeKALB – NIU has seen a drop in spring enrollment compared to previous years.
In Spring 2025 there was a total enrollment of 14,158 students. This represents a 0.4% decline from Spring 2024 and a 10% decline compared to Spring 2019.
The university saw an all-time high level of fall to spring undergraduate re-enrollment. Of the undergraduate students enrolled in Fall 2024, 86.1% re-enrolled for the spring semester with 731 undergraduates graduating at the end of Fall 2024. Overall enrollment from fall to spring for all students decreased by about 8%.
There are 3,437 graduate students, 2,490 masters and 947 doctoral. There was a 16% decrease in new graduate students from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025.
The number of students studying law is 313.
