“Until Dawn” is an upcoming horror film produced by Sony and Screen Gems that adapts the “Until Dawn” games to the big screen.
Featuring new threats, a mystery soon to be uncovered, and a horrific cycle of death, “Until Dawn” is looking to be a shocking new movie for fans and newcomers alike.
“Until Dawn” releases in theaters on April 25. The original game was a horror, choose-your-own adventure style game released in 2015 as an exclusive for PlayStation consoles and later PC. Other games in the franchise include Until Dawn: Rush of Blood from 2016 and The Inpatient from 2018.
The original game followed a group of teenagers – Mike, Josh, Ashley, Emily, Matt, Beth and Chris – who try to survive a night of unknown horrors and wendigos being thrown at them, hence the name “Until Dawn.”
The film stars Ella Rubin as Clover, a young woman who returns to the site of her sister’s – played by Maia Mitchell – mysterious disappearance to search for clues. She acts alongside Micheal Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo and Belmont Cameli.
The movie’s most recent trailer shows more about the time loop aspect of the plot. That being, once the characters have arrived at the haunted visitors center and been subject to the horrors within, they are forced to relive the night over and over with each night getting worse before they finally escape in the morning.
The trailer takes its time to showcase all of the brutal torment the cast will undergo, including being hunted by a masked killer, who strikes resemblance to one of the enemies from the original game and the remake
As of now, there are few direct ties between the movie and the games it is based on. The film seems to be building its own original story off the back of the franchise that built its foundation.
The trailers themselves have told little about the story, keeping it shrouded in mystery, while being no stranger to frightening its audience with brutal violence and terrifying scenes. For fans of the game series, they may be disappointed from the departure from the first game’s story, though reactions may change once the movie is released.
