March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate women for who they are and their accomplishments. Women make up around half of the population, so it’s important that we use this time to celebrate them.
NIU students provided their thoughts on what Women’s History Month means to them.
Judith Varela, a junior political science major, said Women’s History Month is important to acknowledge how much has changed.
Q: “What does Women’s History Month mean to you?”
A: “It really just means, like, looking back into how we’ve really evolved from back then to now, like the rights of women and just what women can achieve. I think it’s really important.”
Q: “Why is celebrating Women’s History Month important?”
A: “I think it’s really important to really acknowledge how much has changed. Women have been able to complete and finish so many amazing things over time.”
Nathan Kordas, a junior operations management and information systems major, said women are an important part of society.
Q: “What does Women’s History Month mean to you?”
A: “It’s the time to celebrate women because they are important. They are an important part of society.”
Ahsan Khan, a senior OMIS major, said Women’s History Month is important to his family.
Q: “What does Women’s History Month mean to you?”
A: “It represents a lot of things. It represents the values in terms of where we are as a society today and how far we’ve come. It is really valuable for me personally, and it’s a big aspect of my family.”
Betty Smith, a junior computer science major, said women have struggled historically.
Q: “Why is celebrating Women’s History Month important?”
A: “Because women are important. We’re half the population, and historically we’ve struggled. And women’s rights isn’t that old. So, it’s important to remember that.”
