NIU men’s tennis (7-11, 0-5 MAC) fell to the University of Toledo Rockets (9-6, 3-2 MAC) in a 5-2 loss Saturday afternoon, extending their conference losing streak to five matches.
In doubles play, NIU juniors Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and Federico Scotuzzi were defeated by Toledo senior Hanamichi Carvajal and sophomore Poonthong Komolpisut, 6-1.
NIU sophomores Sam Klein and Saul Berdullas fell in a 6-2 match against Toledo juniors Lucas Britez and Joshua Mackey.
NIU junior Iker Dellien Velasco and freshman Chiao Bo Su0 Nan then faced off against Toledo junior Matias Olivero and sophomore Charlie Snow which went unfinished, with Toledo leading 3-2.
In singles play, Berdullas secured a strong victory over Toledo’s Carvajal, winning 6-4, 6-2.
Klein also shined, battling through three sets to defeat Toledo’s Snow in a 7-6 (6-2), 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).
Gaztambide Arrastia lost to Toledo’s Komolpisut in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Scotuzzi fell short of a victory against Toledo’s Olivero, 6-4, 6-2.
Bo Suo Nan was defeated by Rocket’s Mackey in a close match, 6-3, 6-4.
Dellien Velasco was defeated facing Rockets’ Lucas Britez, losing 6-2, 6-0.
