NIU women’s golf wrapped up its spring season at the MAC Championship, finishing fourth in a field of 10 teams after the three-day event wrapped up Tuesday.
After a seventh-place finish following the first day, the Huskies found themselves sitting in second place heading into the final round despite windy conditions on Monday
As a team, the Huskies finished 48-over par, finishing two strokes over archrival Ball State University. Combining for a total of 912 strokes throughout the three rounds, the Huskies best performance came on the first day.
Through the first round, the Huskies finished 15-over par as a team.
Freshman Mia Raines led the way for the Huskies, finishing tied for eighth place after finishing six-over par. Raines carded an even-par score of 72 in the first round before carding a 77 in the second round and finishing with a 73.
NIU’s second best golfer was freshman Alexa Ouellet, finishing in 10th place. Ouellet posted a 76 in the first round before carding a one-under par score of 71 in the second round, finishing with another 76 in the third round.
Finishing third in the Huskies’ lineup, freshman Dakota Tallent posted a 77 in the first round before posting a 79 in the second round. Tallent finished the competition with a 78 in the third round, good enough to tie for 27th place.
Finishing not far behind Tallent was senior Caroline Kent, who finished in 31st place after shooting 80 on the first day, including an eagle on the 18th hole in the first round.
Kent finished the next two rounds with a 77 in the second and a 78 in the final round.
Rounding out the Huskies lineup, graduate student Emma Thorman finished tied for 32nd place. Thorman ended the first day with a 78 before carding back-to-back scores of 79 to finish the competition.
