Students across NIU may have different hobbies or fandoms they enjoy and are part of, and no one should be ashamed of their interests.
Ranging from enjoying anime to “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter,” students provided their thoughts on which fandom has the most unique people.
Nick Obabko, a senior political science major, discovered his love of “Star Wars” from his father.
Q: “What fandom do you think has the most unique people?”
A: “For me, it’s always been “Star Wars.” I’ve been a fan of “Star Wars” ever since I was a child.”
Q: “What specifically drew you to the world of “Star Wars?”
A: “Mainly having a father for a “Star Wars” fan who would never shut up about it.”
Q: “And this generational love for “Star Wars,” do you think it will continue to the next generation?”
A: “I hope so. If Disney doesn’t screw anything up. They’ve been making some controversial decisions. Some of the product is OK. Some, they’re just not thinking through with the lore and all of that. So, I hope so.”
Noor Dogar, a junior early childhood education major, believes “Harry Potter” is the fandom with the most diverse fans.
Q: “What fandom do you think has the most unique people?”
A: “I think the fandom that has the most unique people would probably be “Harry Potter” fans. Because “Harry Potter” has been around for a pretty long time and there’s a lot of diverse fans. I’ve seen a lot of videos and a majority of them talk about, you know, how “Harry Potter” helped them kind of, like, be who they are. So I’d say “Harry Potter” fan base.”
Le’ah Green, a first-year human development and family sciences (HDFS) major, believes “Star Wars” has the most diehard fans.
Q: “What fandom do you think has the most unique people?”
A: “I would say “Star Wars” because they’re really diehard fans and they’re really into, like, the cosplay and, like, usually their whole life seems to revolve around “Star Wars.” Like, I have a cousin that loves “Star Wars” and my name’s Le’ah, so you know how that can go. And it just becomes really aggressive over time. So, “Star Wars” for sure.”
