DeKalb residents wishing to vote in the April 2 election have until March 4 to register.

Only residents of wards 1, 3, 5, and 7 may vote for their city alderman in the election, said county elections clerk Nancy Marchiando. However, all DeKalb County residents may vote for park district board and a county property tax levy referendum, she said.

To register, you must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen and reside in the precinct 30 days before the election. Naturalized citizens must provide the name of the court they were naturalized in.

To prove residency, you must provide two forms of identification, with one showing name and current address. Marchiando said a piece of mail, printed checks or a utility bill will do. Registration must be done in person.

DeKalb citizens who are already registered and have moved or changed their names need to alert the County clerk’s Office by March 4.

Voter registration cards will be sent out within two weeks of registration, Machiando said.
