VCB sends valentine’s to U.S. soldiers
January 25, 1991
Village Commons Bookstore is offering the opportunity for concerned DeKalb people to reach out to soldiers stationed in the Middle East on St. Valentine’s Day.
ichard Boardman, owner of VCB, 901 Lucinda, said anyone interested in sending one of 1,500 available valentines should stop by and fill one out. The only cost is that of a 25-cent postage stamp, he said.
Tables for filling out valentines are located near the parking lot entrance or at the information desk, Boardman said.
“A student can send a card off blindly to the APO,” Boardman said. This method will ensure that any soldier gets the card, he said.
The person also could address the valentine to a particular soldier, Boardman said.
The cards were donated by Recycled Paper Products, Boardman said.
A spokesperson for the company said that it sponsored this program during the Christmas season and found it successful. “We donated about 150,000 cards across the U.S.,” the spokesperson said.
Valentines can be filled out anytime during VCB’s hours: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
