NIU journalism dept. buys new computers

NIU’s journalism department has bought 27 new computers that will provide them with some of the newest technology available.

The Northern Star recently reported that 100 new computers were bought by the NIU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences department, but then received word that NIU actually bought the 100 computers for other departments as well.

“I want to make clear that the journalism department bought only 27 computers that will be used exclusively by the journalism department. The department paid $60,000 for the computers, which was one-third the cost of the total number of computers that were bought by the university,” said Richard Digby-Junger, assistant journalism professor.

The journalism computers will be used by students in the classroom and also in some graphics classes. The remaining computers are at different locations throughout the NIU campus.
