Spikers look to rebound

By Jennifer Hutchins

Volleyball momentum usually swings like a pendulum-sometimes it’s up and sometimes down.

Unfortunately, NIU has recently seen the downside of the swing against a tough University of Illinois-Chicago squad Tuesday. This weekend, the Huskies look to swing their way back to the top against Wisconsin-Green Bay.

If game predictions were made in terms of records, the Huskies certainly have the advantage. NIU is 19-7 for the season with a 4-1 showing in the North Star Conference. The Phoenix, however, are having a rough year. With a 7-13 record, UW-GB remains winless in the NSC at 0-4. UW-GB hasn’t had much luck against the Huskies in the past, with NIU leading the series at 3-1.

Although that appears to be good news for NIU, the Huskies are actually struggling to overcome a pair of injuries. According to head volleyball coach Pete Waite, senior Julie Kreiling-Zinke will most likely be out for another week due to an ankle injury she received in the match against UIC. To make matters worse, freshman Kori Schauer also is out with a persistent ankle injury. She hopes to be back to practice Friday and possibly see playing time against UW-GB.

The Huskies will be staying home to host the Phoenix at the Chick Evans Field House Saturday. Gametime is scheduled for 7 p.m.
