DeKalb restaurants are expecting a big turnout Saturday when the onslaught of parents hits NIU.

Mike Muzzarelli, owner of the Crystal Pistol Beach Club, 1312 W. Lincoln Hwy., said the restaurant already is booked from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Parents’ Weekend has “always been busy for anybody in town, especially if the weather’s nice,” Muzzarelli said.

e said he has seen parents come back year after year for the four years their children were in school.

unan House, 1221 W. Lincoln Hwy., has received a lot of reservations for the weekend, said manager Tony Chen. The restaurant does not accept reservations unless it is a party of five or more, Chen said.

Parents’ Weekend is about double to regular weekend business, he said.

Linda Lewis, owner of Matthew Boone’s Restaurant and Lounge, 122 S. First St., said Parents’ Weekend “has always been a very big day. It is one of the biggest days of the year.”

The restaurant is booked until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Lewis said. Extra people have been hired to help on Saturday, Lewis said.

She said Delta Gamma sorority members are bringing their parents to the restaurant, which she estimates will be more than 150 diners.

But not all restaurants are expecting business to surge.

Gus Pamourgies of Cafe Bridgestone, 232 W. Lincoln Hwy., said business will be “bigger than usual, but not that much.”
