Promotional video shows all sides of DeKalb to prospective residents

People trying to decide about moving to the DeKalb area can soon find out about its quality of life by watching a video.

The video titled “DeKalb…A Wonderful Place to Grow” will be available for purchase by area businesses to show to their prospective employees, City of DeKalb Economic Development Director Linda Boyer said.

It will first be shown at the DeKalb City Council meeting Aug. 13, Boyer said. A price will be determined by that time, she said.

Now in the editing phase, the video is being set up in three parts that cover aspects of family, education, values, housing, business and economic development, and culture in the DeKalb area, said Lori Porterlake, marketing officer at the First National Bank in DeKalb.

Porterlake assisted the city of DeKalb in producing the video, Boyer said.

Mike Robinson of WREX-TV News and Coleen Turner of DKW advertising in Rockford will co-anchor the video, Porterlake said.

Porterlake said NIU will be a part of the video. “DeKalb is more than NIU, although NIU is an important part,” she said.

NIU will be discussed as a source for the continuing education needs of families as well as a place for cultural activities such as bands, theater, and sports, she said.

Porterlake said the video should show that DeKalb has the best of both worlds: a city close to the advantages of Chicago but still having a relaxed atmosphere of its own.
