New restaurants make premiere

Three new restaurants have appeared on the streets of DeKalb.

Nick’s Sandwiches, 185 W. Lincoln Hwy., opened its doors for business on Aug. 25 in the old Tom and Jerry’s building.

Owner Tom Tsiftilis is a veteran of the DeKalb restaurant business. At one point in history Tsiftilis owned the A&W Drive-in and Barb City Restaurant.

As the name suggests, sandwiches fill the menu from Rubens to subs and also included are traditional favorites, such as hotdogs, hamburgers and french fries. What the name hides is that Nick’s serves ribeye steak with onions and fish and shrimp dinners.

Amy Hoscheit, an NIU student and Nick’s employee, said a few people have come in even though the restaurant has not advertised.

Rosati’s, 120 Annie Glidden Road, opened this summer and is located were Rocky Rococo’s used to be.

The restaurant is the latest pizza place to open in DeKalb and offers free delivery. Besides pizza, Rosati’s also sells sandwiches, spaghetti, pasta salads and “grinders,” which are sandwiches of sausage, meatball and italian beef with melted mozzarella cheese on them.

Deena Harroun, an NIU student and Rosati’s employee, said the restaurant has been doing well ever since the sign in front was put up.

But there’s more to new restaurants than fast food; Cafe Bridgestone, 232 W. Lincoln Hwy., is located were It’s Greek to Me was and serves international classics from chicken cordon blue to filet mignon.

Desserts range from cream caramel to the house cake. Wine and beer can be ordered with meals. Sandwiches and hamburgers are also on the menu.

Owner Ted Pamourgies, who owned It’s Greek to Me, said he has remodeled and hired new cooks to give the restaurant new appeal.

Nick’s opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 2 a.m. Rosati’s hours are from 11 a.m. till late, except on Sundays when it opens at 2 a.m. Cafe Bridgestone is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
