New carpet limits service at DeKalb Public Library

Adult patrons of the DeKalb Public Library will find limited services from Sept. 10 to 16 while new carpeting is installed, said library director Joann O’Malley.

“The (current) carpeting is over 10 years old,” O’Malley said. “It’s worn and unattractive.”

To give patrons more services, the library will allow materials to be kept for three weeks instead of the usual one or two weeks until Sept. 8, she said.

While the carpeting is being laid, a small percentage of the adult materials, such as popular fiction, will be available in the Youth Services Department downstairs, she said.

Materials not available will include non-fiction, reference, microfilm, local history and the audio-visual collection, she said.

All materials should be returned to the Youth Services Department, she said. Those items will then be available for check-out.

As a convenience for patrons, books that are late can be returned without charge between Sept. 4 and Oct. 4, she said.

“We’re very excited; it should look beautiful,” she said. “The library will have a new rose-beige color scheme. We can hardly wait until it’s finished.”
