Student Affairs office examines candidates

An NIU committee headed by Barbara Henley has selected four candidates for the office of Associate Vice President of Student Affairs to fill the vacancy left by Henley after her promotion to Vice President.

Henley said the four people selected must next be approved by the NIU Affirmative Action Office. She said she doesn’t expect any of the candidates to have any problems with this.

After the office’s approval, the candidates will be contacted to set up interviews, Henley said. She said she will supply the names of the candidates after they agree to be interviewed. She said she will not release the names of all the applicants to protect the confidentiality of the search.

The committee has accepted applications from all over the country for the position. When asked why the committee decided to consider applicants outside of NIU, Henley said this search is “consistent with what was done before.” She said she came to NIU from Chicago State in this way.

The committee is made up of students and faculty from NIU. Henley said they have met a number of times this spring to discuss the opening.
