‘Young Alumni’ honored

Seven NIU alumni were honored with “Young Alumni Awards” through NIU Alumni Association Sunday night.

The association awards alumni “every spring, according to the nature of their career achievement,” said Susan Lund, director of NIU’s alumni relations.

The awards are given to one alumnus per academic college, including Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Professional Studies, Law, Business and Visual and Performing Arts.

Lund said the association accepts “nominations from all sources all year from faculty, colleagues and other alumni. Selections are made through the awards committee of the association.

The seven award recipients—from a pool of 60 nominees—gave “formal presentations on academic areas to current students through workshops and classroom speeches,” Lund said.

The 1990 award winners are: Lorraine T. Cole, Rockville, Md.; Vicki Coleman, West Lafayette, Ind.; Patrick C. Disney, Olympia Fields; William J. Judge, Chicago; Terry Luxmore, Sandwich; Julie D. Nelson, Sioux City, Iowa and Carolyn Reckert, Arlington Heights.

Winners received plaques and travel expenses from the association’s fund raising and profits.
