Exciting victory

We would like to personally congratulate the players and coaching staff of the NIU women’s basketball team on an exciting and hard-fought victory versus the DePaul Lady Blue Demons.

Although the Huskies had to travel to Alumni Hall at DePaul University, someone forgot to tell the NIU fans that they weren’t in “The Doghouse” back in DeKalb.

A large number of Huskie fanatics followed the team to Chicago to cheer on perhaps the best women’s basketball team in NIU history.

With a record-setting crowd of 4,294, our fans were outnumbered somewhere near 7 to 1, but were enthusiastic enough to keep the momentum of the game going in NIU’s direction. It was thrilling to see so many fans attend a road game.

Fan support is a vital part of the NIU women’s basketball team, as it should have been for last season’s football team.

Will the lack of fan support prevent another NIU athletic team from competing in post-season play? We hope not.

We would like to see even more fans supporting the women’s basketball team by attending the rest of the team’s home games, especially the next contest against DePaul on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Chick Evans Field House.

After all, we are the #1 scoring team in the nation!
