Rock Valley to advise NIU nursing students

By Denis Tagler

Advisers for students pursuing NIU nursing degrees in Rockford are available at Rock Valley College, since the Rockford Regional Academic Center has been closed.

NIU offers a Rockford-based bachelor of science completion program for registered nurses through its College of Continuing Education. Sixty-three students have enrolled in three classes offered this fall at Rockford’s Jefferson High School and a fourth class will be added next spring.

Academic advisement for NIU students in the Registered Nursing and nursing master’s degree programs is available every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in room 102 of Rock Valley College’s Building 2.

Admission applications to the Registered Nursing degree-completion program must be received by NIU’s admissions office between Sept. 1 and April 1, prior to the fall semester for which admission is sought. Admission of registered nursing students is based on the cumulative gradepoint average of transferable college credit.

Registered nurses have the option of obtaining credit through examination for a number of courses. Proficiency exams for non-nursing courses also are available in other academic areas of the university.
