Six sororities to partake in parade float division

Six sororities in NIU’s Panhellenic Council will participate in the float/decorated car division of Saturday’s Homecoming parade, although the IFC fraternities voted Sept. 17 not to participate in this aspect of the parade.

PHC President Leslie Wegworth encouraged the sororities to participate in this division at the Sept. 26 PHC meeting. “We have an opportunity to shine. We’re taking a stand about how we feel about the university,” she said.

Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Gamma, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Beta Chi, Sigma Kappa and Sigma Sigma Sigma sororities will take part in the float/decorated car division without their Homecoming partners.

enee Esgar, activities adviser for University Programming and Activities, said, “I’m real appreciative of them (sororities) doing that (making floats or decorating cars). The community always likes to see a good parade,” she said.

“It’s nice to see that the Greeks are still involved,” Esgar said. All of the PHC sororities will join their Homecoming partners in the novelty act division of the parade.

The partners are Alpha Delta Pi/Lambda Chi Alpha, Alpha Phi/Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Sigma Alpha/Delta Upsilon, Delta Gamma/Pi Kappa Alpha, Delta Phi Epsilon/Delta Chi, Delta Zeta/Delta Sigma Phi, Kappa Delta/Sigma Nu, Phi Beta Chi/Kappa Sigma, Sigma Kappa/Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Lambda Sigma/Phi Kappa Theta and Sigma Sigma Sigma/Phi Kappa Sigma.
