Arts and craft show

The third annual fall “Concerto in Crafts” Arts and Craft Show will be held at the Piano Factory in St. Charles, Ill., on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and about 60 crafters will be featured.

Jazz Lab Band concert

The NIU Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Antonio Garcia, will present its fall concert at 8 p.m. Monday in the Bouteil Memorial Concert Hall of the Music Building. Admission is free and the program is open to the public.

Student awarded certificate

David L. Mayer of 1212 Varsity Blvd., DeKalb, has completed a course in Diamonds with the Santa Monica, California-based Gemological Institute of America, and has been awarded the Institute’s Diamonds certificate.

Farm Bureau wins first

The DeKalb County Farm Bureau claimed first place in Membership Group III of the Illinois Farm Bureau Sports Festival for the 12th consecutive year.

Judge serves as vice-chair

Richard D. Larson, Associate Judge for the 16th Judicial Circuit and presently assigned to the DeKalb County Courthouse, has been appointed by the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois to serve as vice-chair of the Equitable Power Topical Committee for the 1990 Associate Judge Seminar in March.

Anthropology findings

Recent archeological discoveries by NIU anthropologist William Fash Jr. and his team of colleagues are recorded extensively in the October issue of National Geographic.

The articles focus on the recent excavations by Fash and his colleagues at the Maya city of Copan in western Honduras, the “collapse” of Copan “a millenium ago” and a plan for a five-nation, 1,500-mile “La Ruta Maya,” or Mayan Route, to showcase and preserve the region’s shared cultural, historical and enviornmental heritage.
