Letter to the Editor: It strikes us that the real trouble in the Pow Wow Room is not that there are not enough tables. There is just not enough room on the tables to pile up the dishes accumulated during the day.

We offer one other suggestion: the most economical way to clean-up the Pow Wow Room after lunch would be to get a bulldozer, start at the east end, and shove the whole mess into a garbage pit dug on the west patio…

Vehicle registrations on the NIU campus have neared the 5,000 mark this year, according to Donald E. Bruer, chief of Northern’s security force.

That traffic and parking problems exist on the campus is “obvious to everybody” said Bruer. He said that he expects the congestion to alleviate somewhat by next week, when commuters will have begun forming car pools and students will have located the proper lots in which to park…

Campuses are getting bigger – a mile or more across a college is not unusual. But for the cycling student with only 10 minutes between classes, distance is no longer a problem. And, since the trend of schools is to discourage cars on campus, college administrators are pleased at cycling’s popularity…

Soccer is very possibly the world’s most popular sport, with European stadiums jammed with as many as 100,000 fans.

Here at Northern Illinois University it enjoys considerably less popularity with rarely 100 spectators turning out for the weekly contest.

But Dr. William Healey, Head Coach of this year’s NIU representation, is not to be discouraged by scant publicity or small crowds.

“I truly feel that the sport is coming on strong here, it’s just a matter of time. Last year’s group stirred up a lot of interest, and we must remember that the team is only three seasons old,” Healey said…

Fighting heavy rain and a sloppy track along with the Eastern Illinois opposition, the Northern Illinois University cross-country squad picked up its opening win in the Illinois Interstate Athletic Conference with a 20-39 victory over the Panthers Saturday.

“We ran well despite conditions that normally slow everyone down and ruin all the times. I said last week that if we were to run well we would win. Well, we did,” said J.D. Anderson of his first conference triumph as harrier mentor…
