Retirees acknowledged

NIU President John LaTourette and the NIU Faculty Club will honor 22 retiring faculty members Friday, with the annual faculty recognition dinner to be held in the Holmes Student Center’s Regency Room.

Faculty Club President Robert Keim, will preside at the festivities, which will include responses from Dr. Jon Powell, former chairman of the Communications Studies department, and LaTourette. Entertainment will be provided by NIU’s Opera Workshop.

All NIU faculty are invited to attend the event, which will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the recognition program at 7:30 p.m.

The retirees to be honored have been retired since last spring or will retire this spring or summer. Their range of service to NIU is from nine to 35 years.

Included in the list of retirees to be feted are John Alexson, educational psychology, counseling and special education (EPSCE), 24 years of service; David Carr, leadership and educational policy studies, 18 1/2 years; John Dlabal Jr., curriculum and instruction, 24 years; Paul Eaton, business systems and analysis, 20 years; Sherman Frey, EPCSE, 27 years; Pierre Gravel, anthropology, 24 years; and E. Edward Harris, business education and administrative services, 25 1/2 years.

Also, Harold Husa, EPCSE, 31 years; Winslow Jones, School of Art, 20 years; Sandra Naiman, university libraries, 9 1/4 years; Robert Pearson, biological sciences, 26 years; Donald Polzin, theater arts, 26 1/2 years; Jon Powell, communication studies, 20 years; and Marvin Powell, EPCSE, 28 1/2 years will be honored.

In addition, Alfred Schilt, chemistry; Victor Schormann, university libraries, 23 years; Robert Schreiber, university libraries, 35 years; Lester Kay Smith, university libraries, 16 years; Wilma Stricklin, management, College of Buisness, 13 years; James Warner, technology, 27 years; Willard Welsh Jr., theater arts, 29 years; Vernon Wills LEPS, 21 years are among the honorees.
