Marching band to perform final show

NIU’s Huskie Marching Band, under the direction of Frank Bibb, will perform its last concert of the year in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building Friday at 8 p.m.

The concert will include music the band has performed at half-time shows during the 1988 football season, a total of 15 pieces of music in all. This is the Huskie Band’s fifth annual concert/show as well as its final performance for the year.

The Huskie Band Silverettes and Color Guard also will perform two routines each with the band and one combined routine featuring all three groups.

Friday’s concert is free and open to the public.

Band Assistant Director Margret Kohler said, “We try to do a different show for each football game.”

Besides performing during half-time at football games, the Marching Huskie Band played at the University of Minnesota football game vs. NIU and at the Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers game at Green Bay. The band also has marched in parades in Elgin, in Chicago on Labor Day, at NIU for Homecoming and in the Sycamore Pumpkin festival.

An addition to the marching band this year is the new uniforms that arrived in time for Homecoming.

The Tom Russell Charitable Foundation donated money to the band for the uniforms.
