Clarifies position

I’d like to respond to your March 24 editorial regarding my involvement in WKDI FM’s proposed conversion to a regular FM frequency. What you failed to mention in your editorial is the projected start-up cost of $180,000 which would be required to bring WKDI on air. The WKDI proposal has considerable merit, but it is not at all clear at the present time how such a substantial amount can be generated to fund the proposal.

I do not oppose surveying students to determine their support for WKDI’s venture; I did suggest that such a survey might best be timed in conjunction with an overall plan for financing the start-up costs, particularly if students are asked to fund the project with a special student fee.
