Former student faces hearing

A former NIU student charged with burglary will face a pre-trial hearing May 19 after she waived her right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday at the DeKalb County Court.

Suzanne Wood, 20, faces trial for burglary in connection with a burglary ring broken up by DeKalb Police Dec. 11. The ring is believed to be responsible for up to 10 home burglaries and two attempted burglaries in DeKalb.

Assistant State’s Attorney Duke Harris said a pre-trial conference with a judge, State’s Attorney Phil DiMarzio and Wood’s lawyer will take place April 14 to consider negotiations for a lesser charge.

If the negotiations are not successful Wood’s trial will continue under her original plea of not guilty, Harris said.

Wood was an NIU student when the burglaries occurred, but is not enrolled at NIU this semester.
