Overspending

As an active member of an NIU sports club, I completely agree with Eric Battaglia about the prestige these clubs can bring to the university. They bring enjoyment and good friends to those who participate in them and can make a name for Northern at the same time. The Star reported that the $7,200 requested by the volleyball club was for a tournament in Canada. Eric Battaglia said the $7,200 was for five tournaments. I agree the amount sounds more reasonable that way, but it is still too much money to ask for five tournaments, because $7,200 is more than any one club gets for an entire year. Even the hockey and lacrosse clubs, which have many members and expensive equipment, don’t receive $7,200. The only way that $7,200 sounds reasonable to me is if all 38 members of the volleyball team are taken to every tournament. I’d like to see 38 people play in one volleyball match.

There just wouldn’t be enough money to go around if all the clubs asked for such large sums of money.
