Easy recipes with five ingredients or less: Cheesy Tater Tot Casserole

By Sarah Fischer

Welcome back, college chefs! As the holidays draw near and the weather outside becomes frightful, nothing satisfies our hunger like the heartiness of comfort food.

Everyone knows no family gathering is complete without a potato side dish, and this week’s recipe is a cheesy tater tot casserole that’s sure to compliment any main course around the table during your holiday feast.

Though this casserole takes a while in the oven, the recipe only requires three simple steps and you’ll have plenty of time to work on household chores or schoolwork while it’s cooking. This meal can also be eaten as a main dish with a side of steamed vegetables, but it yields a large amount so be ready for leftovers.

Scrape the mixture into a 9×13 casserole dish and press it down until the contents lay as flat as possible in the dish to ensure it cooks evenly. You do not have to grease the dish if you don’t have cooking spray.

Place the dish in the oven and cook for 45 minutes. When it’s done, take it out and sprinkle some more shredded cheddar on top, placing it back into the oven for another 10 minutes until it’s completely cooked through and the cheese is melted.
