We all have different ways of applying makeup, and makeup applicators come in all different forms and at different costs; however, the foundation is a key step in the makeup process and can either make or break a look.
Most people today use a beauty sponge, but silicone makeup applicators are proving to be popular. For applying foundation, here are the differences of applying with a sponge versus a silicone applicator.
A beauty sponge is the oldest tool, other than fingers, that men and women have used to apply foundation. With the sponge, you have options.
You can keep the sponge dry for fuller coverage, or wet the sponge if you want a more dewy look. The only con to a beauty sponge is the amount of product it soaks up because well… it’s a sponge.
My favorite beauty sponge is by Real Techniques.
Silicone Makeup Sponge
Silicone makeup sponges are just another way to apply foundation, but they perform differently than a beauty sponge. A silicone makeup applicator will not soak up any product because of its silicone material.
This means you will save a lot of product, which in turn saves you money. The downside to the silicone make sponges is it just doesn’t blend into the skin like a normal beauty sponge. It can often leave marks on your face and it takes a lot more effort to make the skin appear flawless.
The silicone makeup sponges I have used before are from Walmart.
At the end of the day, it’s up to you how you apply your makeup, but I believe it’s important to try a different technique every once in a while. You could find the next best thing for your makeup routine.
