Disney Animation Studios is well known for the multitude of ways its animated films bring out the child in everyone. In Disney’s new and colorful animated sequel “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Wreck-It Ralph and his sweet sidekick Vanellope Von Schweetz return for a new adventure. Vanellope’s game “Sugar Rush” is in danger of being shut down by the store’s owner, so Ralph and Vanellope embark on a journey through the Wi-Fi router and into the dazzling digital world of the internet in search of a way to save her game.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” still possesses all the vibrant, lively and humorous qualities that were present in its predecessor, “Wreck-It Ralph,” but a modern quality has replaced the wistfulness of the first film. The visuals in “Ralph Breaks the Internet” are astounding, and Disney delves deeply into real-life issues in the sequel, such as how a toxic personality can ruin a friendship that was otherwise unbreakable. John C. Reilly (Ralph) and Sarah Silverman (Vanellope) lend their voices to the main characters and do an exceptional job of adding engaging humor and emotion to the film’s ambiance.

Although there are quite a few climactic events throughout the film, the plot is carried out smoothly and nothing is left to question at the end. The entirety of the movie is spent following Ralph and Vanellope’s quest, and this was a key factor in ensuring the plot remained uninterrupted instead of bouncing back and forth between less important characters throughout the film. One of the most remarkable parts of the picture is how surprising the ending is, and the whole movie follows that theme by constantly keeping the audience guessing as to what will happen next.

Regardless of the mixed reviews received from the audience, Disney went above and beyond to ensure “Ralph Breaks the Internet” reflected the accuracy the audience would expect from an animated film about the internet, along with many of Disney’s signature life lessons integrated into the plot. The movie’s jubilant sense of humor is thoroughly entertaining, and the most enjoyable moments are those which provide the opportunity to spot as many popular references to modern internet culture as possible.
