Susana Mendoza re-elected after Republican canditate concedes

By Northern Star Staff

Democrat Susana Mendoza won the election for comptroller general by a large margin Tuesday, wiping her Republican counterpart Darlene Senger out of the waters.

The election was so overwhelmingly supportive of Mendoza that Senger called to concede. In DeKalb, the votes mirrored this as many favored Mendoza. Mendoza also ran against Libertarian candidate Clair Ball.

This is Mendoza’s second term as comptroller general. Her first victory was in a special election for comptroller when she beat Leslie Munger for the position.

Following the election, there is talk surfacing of rumors of Mendoza joining the race for Chicago mayor, though she has said she is focused on carrying out a full term as comptroller general.

Mendoza previously served as Chicago City Clerk and was an Illinois State Representative.
