City introduces artistic program

DeKALB — Residents are invited to apply to adopt and paint a fire hydrant as part of the Paint-a-Plug Program.

Applications are available online and can be submitted to [email protected].

Applying for the program is free, but materials for painting the designated hydrant, if selected, will not be supplied.

The City of DeKalb Citizen’s Community Enhancement Commission [CCEC] and the DeKalb Fire Department will be selecting from applicants and, if selected, participants are expected to paint their fire hydrants between April 1 and Nov. 1, according to the city’s webpage.

Current residents, NIU alumni, residential businesses and outside artists are welcome to apply for the Paint-a-Plug Program, according to the city of DeKalb’s webpage.

There are no required themes for the different fire hydrants, but selectees are encouraged to capture the different elements of the community.

Participants are encouraged to share the final product on social media with the hashtag #ProudlyDeKalb.
