Huskie Spotlight: E-Sports Club Creates Community

Group name: NIU Esports Club

About the group: E-Sports Club an organization of students interested in all aspects video game culture, whether that be casual or competitive! Our goal is to make E-Sports a viable route for students to compete in at a collegiate level, without disregarding our casual players. We fund and manage competitive teams to compete in Rocket League, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, League of Legends, and Hearthstone. We also host tournaments and LAN parties throughout the semester, open for anyone!

President: Liam Buchanan is the current president of NIU E-Sports.

Adviser: Aline Click is the advisor of the club.

Year formed: E-Sports Club was established at NIU in 2014.

Number of members: The club has approximately 50 active mambers.

Who can join?: Anyone is welcome to join.

Meeting times, location: The club meets  from 6-9 p.m. every other Friday in the Stevenson Multi-purpose Room. The next meetings for this semester are on April 6, 21, and May 4.

Is the public welcome to attend your meetings or events?

Because of NIU’s new security policy E-Sports Club cannot allow non-NIU students to attend meetings. However, the tournaments and events throughout the year are always open to high school teams, other universities and members of the DeKalb community to attend.

How is the group financed?

The club is financed by the optional membership fees and tournaments along with Campus Recreation and Wellness.
