Delighted By Dessert Hummus: Chickpeas With a Side of Skepticism

By Maddie Barrett

“Delighted by Dessert” created a chickpea hummus with a sweet, chocolaty twist. The mixture of ingredients could make anyone skeptical, so I decided to put it’s questionable taste to the test. I’m a hummus lover, but if you aren’t then this isn’t the right dip for you.

The idea of chickpeas and chocolate didn’t seem to blend well together in my mind. How could someone create something so sweet but so healthy? I wasn’t sure what to expect. So, I picked up a tub of the Brownie Batter flavor; the ingredients consisted of chocolate chickpeas and a side of skepticism.

After opening the tub, my nose was overwhelmed with the smell of chocolate. I’m not the biggest fan of chocolate… I bought pretzels, berries and Teddy Grahams to dip into the hummus. I started with the pretzel sticks and was pleasantly surprised with the taste of the hummus along with the crunchiness of the pretzel sticks. The flavor was sweet with an unpleasant chickpea aftertaste but bearable.

Next, I tried the hummus with strawberries which was much better than the pretzels. It was like a healthier alternative to chocolate covered strawberries, and I don’t know many people who don’t enjoy them.

Finally I tried the dessert hummus with a fan favorite, Teddy Grahams. I was concerned as to what it would taste like, since it’s putting two sweets together. As I dipped the teddy into the chocolate, I had a feeling it was going to be delicious. I was definitely right, the sweetness of the teddy graham and the delicious, sweet brownie batter hummus made the perfect pair.

Overall, it was satisfying to my sweet tooth and my snack tooth as it keeps me up at night when I should be sleeping. I recommend this dessert hummus to anyone with who loves a good snack and a sweeter alternative to sugar.
