DeKALB — Singer-songwriter Sophia Andaloussi has been singing her whole life and writing songs since 2010. She said her lyrics are inspired by the world she lives in and those around her and she hopes to showcase them in her upcoming performance at Acoustapalooza with other local artists.
Convertible Productions, booking agency for The House, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will be hosting the acoustic showcase 6 p.m. Friday at The House.
The event will feature several artists including Andaloussi, Wayne Imel, Pete Jive and Geoff Nelson. Miles Mapes, head talent buyer of Convertible Productions, said each of the artists has their own style from folk to modern alternative which they will be showcasing.
Pete Jive, singer-songwriter since 2002, has a style reminiscent of classic folk music accompanied by a guitar. He has two EPs already released that can be found on his website, petejive.com. His music is full of country-inspired sounds and positive lyrics.
Another performer, Melrose, will close the show with a more upbeat and synthesized style. Her sound is a contrast to most of the artists slower, rhythmic styles.
Andaloussi said her style is independent as well as slightly alternative. She said this stems from training in jazz and opera, coupled with her abilities on guitar. A collection of her songs can be found on Soundcloud by searching Sophia Andaloussi.
“One of my favorite moments is when you’re listening to music [and] you feel it,” Andaloussi said. “Like standing next to a bass and your heart beat hurts.”
Mapes said the event will be a great way to spend a Friday night with live performances and drinks rather than a recording at a bar or at home.
“Nights like these are one of my favorites because we get to give a solo person that puts their passion all by themselves into their music, a really unique experience,” Mapes said.
Andaloussi said having local performers is exciting because it gives her an opportunity to showcase her talent and be heard in the community, something she strives to do.
Mapes said even if the artists have been seen before, each time they perform it is different and it will be a whole new experience.
