Restaurant Review: Dog Haus

By Alec Heaton

Rockford, IL was treated with the addition of a new restaurant: Dog Haus Biergarten, 7616 Walton St. Dog Haus offers a wide selection of specialty hot dogs, sausages, burgers and chicken sandwiches, as well as an impressive rotating craft beer selection.

The casual atmosphere was welcoming, as the calm industrial interior allowed me to relax and enjoy my meal. Plenty of seating was available, although they weren’t the most comfortable of seats. Several TVs dotted the upper walls. Voices echoed throughout and the music played at just the right volume.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced for the quality and portion sizes. If the menu options aren’t cutting it for you, you can build your own entree with a multitude of toppings at your disposal.

I ordered the Cowboy, a bacon-wrapped hot dog smothered in cheese and barbecue sauce. The delicious cheese and barbecue sauces complemented each other perfectly and the crisp bacon added a satisfying crunch. The fries and tater tots were hot, crunchy and cooked to perfection. All the dogs and sandwiches were served on toasted Hawaiian rolls, which was a soft addition to such flavorful sandwiches.

Dog Haus has happy hour specials from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as all day Sunday specials. I will definitely be coming back and I strongly encourage any hot dog fans who find themselves in the Rockford area to do the same.
