By Hector Infante

The women’s tennis team got its first win of the season Friday with a 6-1 victory against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers.

The win followed a shutout loss Thursday against the University of Wisconsin Badgers. However, they bounced back with a near shutout win against the Panthers.

Thursday – University of Wisconsin

It was a day at the dog pound for the Huskies as they were swept in both singles and doubles matches.

Match No. 1 between freshman Thisuri Molligoda and senior Evelyn Youel versus Badgers’ Sara Castellano and Mary Ann Rompf didn’t have a result.

It was the Badgers who got first at No. 2 when Mellisa Pick and Lexi Keberle defeated NIU freshmen Maria Potsi and Lara Slisko by a score of 6-4.

Christina Zordani and Michelle Linden ended the doubles competition with another 6-2 win for Wisconsin against senior Abigail Dekkinga and sophomore Brodie Walker.

The singles matches were much like the doubles as the Huskies were swept again.

Keberle kicked things off for the Badgers at No. 1 defeating Potsi 6-2, 6-1.

Although Dekkinga was able to put up a fight against Pick in the first set of match No. 4, she fell short.

Linden and Zordani completed the sweep in matches No. 5 and 6, defeating Yuel and Walker.
