The College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday that Mikayla Voigt, women’s basketball junior guard, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Second-Team.

The organization recognises players who excel on and off the playing platform. This is the first time an NIU player has been recognized by the CoSIDA since Amanda Corral in the 2014-15 season.

“No one exemplifies the term student-athlete more than Mikayla,” said Head Coach Lisa Carlsen, according to NIU Media Services. “Her diligent work ethic in the classroom, as well as on the court, is consistently at a high level and sets the standard for all her teammates. I’m excited for Mikayla to be recognized for her achievement in managing both.”

Voigt has accumulated a 3.91 cumulative GPA as a nursing major in her time at NIU and was named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Nov. 30.

On the court, Voigt averages 13.6 points a game and leads the team in assists with 123 on the season. Voigt is also averaging a team-high 36.5 minutes a game.
